Menicon Progent solution is a weekly protein disinfectant, intensive cleaning product that removes microorganisms and is used for hard, gas permeable contact lenses. Menicon Progent Disinfectant Solution consists of 2 sterile solutions: Progent A (sodium hypochlorite, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, purified water) and Progent B (potassium bromide, sodium carbonate, purified). A very important feature and advantage of these solutions is their compatibility with all types of GP contact lenses.

What is Menicare Progent used for?

  • Menicare Progent is mainly recommended for removing protein deposits from the suArface of contact lenses without the need for manual scrubbing as with other disinfecting solutions. This step involves soaking the lenses in the Progent A+B mixture for just 30 minutes.
  • Progent Menicare has a fast and powerful disinfection. It destroys micro-organisms, mould, cysts and yeast in about five minutes.

Menicon Progent should not be used on lenses treated with Tangible Hydra-PEG as it can damage the coating.

Why do we mix the two compounds and what happens to the Menicon Progent solution

PROGENT is made up of two sterile compounds: sodium hypochlorite (Progent A) and potassium bromide (Progent B). When the two compounds are joined together, an oxidation-reduction reaction takes place that disinfects and removes lens debris and proteins.

How do we use Menicon Progent?

  • Soak lenses in the Progent solution for up to 30 minutes.
  • Before inserting the lenses into the eye, it is necessary to rinse them with a hard lens cleaning solution or saline solution.
  • After the lenses are used the lens case should be rinsed and dried thoroughly.
  • Progent treatment is recommended every two weeks. The frequency may vary depending on your lenses.

Contraindications:

Do not use Menicon Progent to disinfect soft contact lenses, including hydrogel or silicone-hydrogel. Do not use Progent if you are allergic to one or more ingredients of this compound.
