Polarized Sunglasses

You may be familiar with the sensation of your eyes being sensitive to blinding sunlight, even when wearing sunglasses. This often occurs because traditional sunglass lenses are not capable of adequately filtering reflections, glare, and dazzle. Polarized lenses solve this problem with the help of a chemical substance, the polarizing material. But what does polarized mean, and what does the polarizing material do?

Polarized sunglasses were first made by Edwin H. Land, who invented the polarizing material that can also be applied to sunglass lenses, thus turning the lens and the sunglasses into polarized ones.

The polarizing material is a mixture of microscopic crystals and other sulfate-based chemical substances "embedded" in a very thin, film-like, transparent nitrocellulose material. Polarized (polarised) sunglass lenses only allow vertically oriented light beams to pass through. Thus, they filter out the blinding light reflected from water, ground, and other surfaces, and different material boundaries, protecting our eyes from eye fatigue and extreme light condition changes. As a result, they provide a much more contrasted and pleasant visual experience compared to traditional lenses.

  • No more blinding light, reflections
  • Sharper, more contrasted vision
  • Colors are excellently enjoyable and brighter
  • 100% UV-A and UV-B protection

The Right Sunglasses

There are three important factors that a pair of sunglasses must meet to provide optimal protection for your eyes against harmful UV rays. First and foremost, the lens is the heart of the sunglasses and must meet the following requirements. The most important is to wear a model of sunglasses with a UV filter that filters out 100% of harmful UV rays up to 400 nanometres (UV 400 sunglasses), so that your eyes are safe from ultraviolet radiation.

The second important element of a good pair of sunglasses is that they should provide you with a comfortable view, even in very bright sunshine, so that they protect you from glare and glare. Last but not least, it is important that we can see a high quality, contrasty image when looking out from behind our sunglasses. If these three conditions are met, we can be sure that we have chosen the right sunglasses.
